Time Keeps on Slipping...

Slipping, slipping into the future...

I can't believe it's been almost a month since my last post, and I'm embarrassed to say I haven't been leaving comments in about as long, either. Thanks for inquiring after me! I'm fine, but fall is always the absolute busiest time in the garden for me. This year even more so because I keep removing more and more buckthorn, and I've transplanted things really too large for transplanting, created a new xeric/Colorado bed, etc.

After coming in for the day, I've been dirty, aching, and exhausted. After throwing my garden clothes in the laundry, I make myself some food (and have been really trying to eat healthier foods, which takes a lot of time and is a whole other story!)... and collapse on the couch.

But my couch is not near my computer and I don't have a laptop... It seems the more time I spend away from the computer, the less I remember it's there. I've also been a bit our of sorts after finding out a close friend from college passed away. She was 42. Of everyone I went to college with, she's one of the few who left a lasting impression. A truly nice person, genuine and caring, always willing to help others, very accepting, always finding the best in people. I admired that and tried to be more like her myself.

As always, I admire all of you who post so regularly, and with all those photos, too!

I really do miss keeping up with you and hope to catch up in about another week or so. I'll have photos for you, too! (Though those from MOBOT and the nice visit with Beckie will have to wait until I'm done in the garden this season.) Thanks for understanding!

  1. Yea! Delighted to see you back, Monica. Indeed a busy time of year and, except for yesterday, our weather has less than grand, even for obsessed gardeners. (I don't even have my bulbs yet!)

  2. I think it great to forget about the computer. I may be joining you in this past time soon myself. Don't even worry about the blogs and enjoy that garden. That's where I'm heading today!

  3. Not very busy here. The rain just won't let up. The grass gets longer, the annuals wither and I'm inside fretting.

  4. Monica, of course we understand.
We will still be here when you return to us...

Sad when someone so young passes away.....it also makes us aware of our own fragility....
My mother always says 'Only the good die young' She sounds as though she was a beautiful person and will always be remembered.

I understand re garden. I have been putting a lot of hours in and must say at this moment I feel exhausted.

  5. Was about to launch a search party Monica in case you had landed in the middle of one of those prickly buckthorns. Autumn can be just as busy as spring. So sorry to hear about your colleague - it sounds as if she was somebody special. Take care.

  7. Monica...Joey wrote my comment! Seriously! I am glad you're back and this has been very not so grand autumn weather! I can't seem to get warm and I am not turning on the heat!

I am sorry to hear about your friend~~it's so shocking when a friend dies; and she was young. That kind of news can really knock us over emotionally. It's like depth charges that we aren't away of that keep going off.

  8. Monica, Don't you worry about a thing. I watch for you whenever you post (and whenever I happen to be at the computer, these days!), and am happy whenever you visit.

It sounds as though you've been working hard and I've been hardly working! ;-)

    Happy day.

  9. Nice to hear that everything is ok up your way. Soemtimes you need to take time for yourself and things closest to you, such as your garden. I will be interested in seeing your xeric garden.

  10. Fall is such a busy time, there are so many tasks that must be completed before either first frost or winter. It's good to be working outside now. There will be plenty of time for the computer when there's a foot of snow on the ground.

  11. Mom grandma always said that' "no news is good news", but you can't always count on that can you? We're happy to see you posting but feel for you for the loss of the wonderful friend from college. She must have been someone so special, the way you describe her.

  12. Monica I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. It sounds like you've been busy! I am sorry to hear about your friend from college. It's always hard to lose someone you care about and she was young.

  13. Monica, I am so glad to hear from you. I figured you were very busy in your garden. Hope your new Colorado garden does well. You will have to tell us more about it.

After a while away from blogland, it seems hard to get back in the groove, but we will be here when ever you have the time. It's just that we miss you. :)

So sorry for your loss. She sounds like the kind of person who made lasting impressions on people and will be remembered with love. That's a great tribute to her life.

Take care dear friend-the grands ask about you and C when they come and want to see your posts. You made quite an impression on them!

  14. Monica, so glad you are back, but I think we all understand completely about being so busy right now, not to mention being tired after coming in from the garden. I find after I've been gone a few days from "Blogland" that's it's almost overwhelming to try to catch up. But I do hope we'll hear more from you as the weather turns. Not much gardening is getting done here--rain, rain, and more rain. When the sun finally shines, that's when I have appointments or have to work, it seems. And now it's so darned cold--will I ever get those fall projects done??

So sorry to hear about the loss of a dear friend. Forty-two is much too young...it's a reminder to all of us that life is precious and to enjoy every moment. Take care, Monica.

  15. Life gets in the way sometimes doesn't it? Sorry to hear of your friend's passing and at such a young age. Enjoy each day with no quilt.

  16. Good to see you around and thanks for letting us know.

Of course real life has to take priority over any virtual one!

    Take care

  18. So glad you've put this note here because your absence was getting a bit worrying. You are such a strong presence on the blogs, our absence is a powerful one!

Sounds as if life is tough as well as tiring. Thoughts are with you. Best wishes.

  20. Monica, I am so sorry to hear of your friends passing. It is always hard to come to terms with a death so early in life. A reminder to live in the moment, and not get caught up in Buckthorn! ;-) Don't feel bad about not posting--a techno break is good once in awhile. If we are not careful, it will just become another chore to be done.

  21. Hi Monica - I'm glad to see you back .... I had been wondering where you were and if you were okay.
I'm still playing catch-up after a very busy couple of weeks in the garden and at work. My blog writing (and following) tends to take a back seat when I'm busy - and tired too!
You take care of yourself :)

  22. Monica! I received a wonderful package in the mail and am terribly excited to plant the roots! I just have to find the Right Places! :-)

  23. I've been MIA in the blogasphere too Monica. It was a case of the flu being passed around in my family with me getting the worst of it of course. ;) Cute photo!

  24. I can relate Monica, and need a blogging break now and then too. Virtual life is fun, but sometimes real life doesn't leave much time for blogging.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend. 42 is much too young to leave. I can imagine what a shock it must have been.

  25. I've been away from blogging too because of work - of the artistic kind.

Sorry to hear about your friend, how very sad. My thoughts are with you.

Take care and look forward to your next post.

  26. I want to fly like an eagle ..... sorry, gor caught up in the song for a bit.

42 is far too youn to die, no wonder you're feeling out of sorts to lose a friend like her that young. :-(

Been quite busy here too and BTW what is a PC? ;-)

    Cute pic of your kitties!

    Birgit

  28. Heh, now I understand why you understood about MY absence from blogger :) Glad you're "back", but I say blog when it's fun and don't when it's not. Life keeps us all too busy from time to time...at least you're getting your hands dirty! ;-)

  29. ps. I forgot to tell you that the variegated dogwood (thank you) has held its own this summer and I wait to see how it does this winter. I am crossing my fingers that it can deal with our mild winters! gail

  30. Monica,
Now I don't feel so guilty, after having read this post. I've had the same situation with respect to writing or reading posts. Even with all the rain I haven't had the time for it! I'm hoping to get back into it soon. Sorry to hear about your college friend. Things are not really summer-y here. Leaves are turning but flowers still bloom, the weather is cooler, and the garden work continues.
    Jean
