Some of the parks did have lots of kids but it felt somehow weird taking photos of kids with their parents hovering nearby. PC climate and all.

Rose,
I was surprised what I learned visiting the parks--because I'm a garage saler, I thought I knew pretty much allt he neighborhoods, but one park, for example, was on a very short street where I used to have a gardening client--I drove by one tiny park at least once a week for two gardening seasons and never knew it was there!

Gail,
I emailed you and am eagerly awaiting your Chicago query!

Frances,
Bing bing bing--we have a winner! I suspect college students make up at least a quarter of the population. Ann Arbor is a quintessential liberal college town that prides itself on its green spaces, including parks. It's not just frats that paint the rock, it's all kinds of orgs. It was rainbow striped with no words when I took the photo--perhaps an LGBT or flower power group!

Tina,
The alien is a two-part shadow, Pete being the body. It was more interesting than I thought!

Ramblin',
I've heard all kinds of great things about the finger lakes region--up and at 'em you go!

GardenLinda,
It's kind of cool your old playsite is now a community garden! I didn't grow up in Ann Arbor, and the podunk town I did grow up in only had one playground (aside from those at schools) and wasn't within walking distance. Fortunately I did have a swingset in my own backyard, which I loved. :) In a way, that's a garden now too because my mom has turned lots of lawn space into garden beds!

Marnie,
The photos were taken on three separate days--each run took about 5 to 6 hours! There were some kids out, though not shown int he photos since I tended to do closeups of items of interest. But apparently kids do not play outside on their own any more and I suspect parents aren't always available.

~MonicaMonica the Garden Faeriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06369882350990949968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-814396908744491265.post-41533955782099956572009-03-23T10:33:00.000-04:002009-03-23T10:33:00.000-04:00Didn't look like any children were out on that spr...Didn't look like any children were out on that spring day.
